Lee County Schools needed better insight into user activity and stronger security for PeopleSoft. With Pathlock, they introduced logging, dashboards, and SSO, reducing risk and simplifying audits without added maintenance overhead.
Real-Time Visibility Where Native Logs Fell Short
When a staff member questioned the accuracy of their PeopleSoft data, Lee County’s IT team turned to the system’s native logs to verify the claim, but found them insufficient. “We weren’t able to validate what the employee was saying,” said John Zimmerman, PeopleSoft Systems Administrator. “That’s what pushed us to search for a better logging solution.”
Lee County discovered Pathlock Native and swiftly implemented its transaction logging features. Unlike the limited logs provided by Oracle, Pathlock captured detailed and contextual information, including transaction timestamps, user IP addresses, and accessed data fields. This implementation gave Lee County the visibility they had previously lacked.
From Reactive to Proactive with Dashboards and Alerts
After improving transaction logging, Lee County added Pathlock’s analytics and dashboard suite. Built on Elasticsearch (now OpenSearch), these dashboards allow staff to identify trends, track suspicious activity, and reduce investigation time.
“Now we can see things like who logged in after business hours, who looked at someone else’s data, who changed a W4 or viewed their paycheck,” Zimmerman said. “We have alerts that help our team look into suspicious transactions on a regular basis.”
This proactive approach now supports both incident response and compliance reporting, saving valuable time for IT and audit teams.
Enabling Secure Access with Seamless SSO Integration
When the district’s IT security team explored adding MFA, they ran into challenges with PeopleSoft’s lack of native SSO support. “We tried to build our own SSO and MFA, but it didn’t work well,” Zimmerman explained. “So we reached out to Pathlock.”
With Pathlock’s SAML-based SSO capabilities, Lee County was able to integrate Microsoft ADFS and enforce conditional access rules, giving them secure, flexible authentication with minimal effort. The solution now supports thousands of daily logins with no added complexity.
Low Maintenance, High Impact
Since implementing Pathlock, the system has operated reliably, even during major PeopleSoft upgrades. “From my perspective, it’s very seamless,” Zimmerman said. “We haven’t had any issues during upgrades. It’s just one less thing I have to worry about.”
By delivering advanced logging, analytics, and secure access in a single solution, Pathlock Native helps Lee County Schools protect sensitive data while giving IT the tools to stay ahead of risk.
